Another breezy day on Valentia Island

Yesterday , 1st of February, again a violent storm front passed Southwest Ireland. Early in the morning about 30 slates were ripped from the roof of our house but throughout the day the gales where too strong to think about doing any repair work. So in the afternoon we decided to stop lamenting about mother nature´s muscle play and took off to get some impressive views around the island.

No way to get to the lighthouse, even two hours before high tide

This used to be the well maintained road to the lighthouse

Caterpillar in the Fuchsias

Today I found a new kid on the block in our fuchsias, whom I have never seen before.
Has anybody an idea who it is respectively to whom he will mutate into next spring?

Small Things at Renard Beach

The light was a bit difficult to take landscape pictures, however there a many things at a beach worthwhile to be photographed.

Moonset and Sunrise

At this bitterly cold but wonderful calm morning I managed to get out of bed early and up to the radio masts over Port Magee and further to the Glen to take a few shots from the setting moon and the first dawn light.
All picture with Olympus E-5 on tripod.

Autumn Colours Derrynane Park

This time of the year is the perfect moment for those colourful autumn leaves that you find in the parks in Kerry. The photos above were taken in Derrynane National Park, part of the Daniel O´Connell estate and open to the public every day for free. Look for clour and shoot the leaves agains the light for more saturation. The Japanes Maple is in particular nice and right below are some mushrooms. A macro lens helps to get closer. All photos Canon 5d and 50mm macro.©Michael Herrmann 2012
